Smoothies

A smoothie is a cold drink consisting of blended fruits and/or berries with juice, yoghurt or/and shattered ice cubes as base. The consistence is thicker and more reminiscent of a milkshake in consistency compared to other beverages and confectionaries.

As with a lot of origin stories there are different ones depending on who is telling the tale, in this case there are two. The first tale goes, that smoothies originated back in the 1920s when Julius Freed who suffered from stomach health problems invented the tasty fruit and berry drink. This kind of smoothie is what we today know as a Green smoothie. The second tale takes us back to the US in the 1960s when ice cream parlors and health food stores started selling them. Needless to say, the smoothies came to life sometime around the 1900s.
