The historical origin of fish cakes takes us back to England in the 19th century. At this time, it was popular to mix leftovers of fish with potato for then to be dipped in batter, fried and served as a snack. Originally, fish cakes were made of cod but today in Europe and Eastern Asia fish as salmon, jumbo, lump, crab and angel fish are also popular to use.

Back in the day, fish cakes originated as a way to use all leftovers that might otherwise be thrown away. Today, more modern recipes have been suggested to the dish in form of ingredients such as smoked salmon and vegetables. Today, fish cakes are made in almost every fish restaurant.
